Understanding and Optimising the Use of the DIN-DMX2-RJ45 Lighting Controller

Modified on Wed, 28 Jun 2023 at 04:58 PM

The DIN-DMX2-RJ45 from Hi-Line is an integral part of many professional lighting systems. This versatile unit can adapt to various project needs, but it's essential to know its specifics for optimal performance. This article aims to address some key considerations and helpful tips for using this device effectively.

One of the first considerations is the type of connectors used. While the DIN-DMX2-RJ45 units are designed to perform reliably in diverse scenarios, the type of cable and connector can influence signal integrity. For the most stable DMX signal, it is advisable to use high-quality, shielded cables that can protect against electromagnetic interference.

The DIN-DMX2-RJ45 units are not self-terminating, which is another aspect to keep in mind. While many installations operate without termination, a 120-ohm resistive terminator at the end of the DMX chain can enhance performance, especially when using multiple units in a daisy-chain setup.

The factory default Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) frequency for the DIN-DMX2-RJ45 is 1KHz, which is suitable for most LED strips. This setting is crucial to prevent flickering when the units are used in high-definition camera environments.

In place of the traditional linear and logarithmic dimming settings, the recent models of this unit have incorporated more versatile gamma correction settings. A default gamma value of 1 corresponds to a linear response, making it easy to adjust lighting to specific requirements.

The unit primarily operates on the original DMX512 standard, using RJ45 connectors for DMX signal transmission. However, it is also capable of working with equipment communicating using the updated DMX512-A protocol. It's important to note that while the unit is compatible with this standard, some advanced features of the DMX512-A might not be fully supported due to the use of RJ45 connectors.

Through a better understanding of these features and characteristics, users can ensure that they utilise the full potential of the DIN-DMX2-RJ45, thereby creating more efficient and effective lighting solutions.
