Mains Dimmable LED Drivers - Dimming single colour LED strips

Modified on Wed, 07 Jun 2023 at 08:10 PM

Q:

Are your LED Strips suitable for mains Dimmable LED Drivers and Leading or trailing edge Wall Dimmers and can I prevent flickering?

A:

All Hi-Line's LED Strips are 100% dimmable but their overall performance is dependant on the Dimmer being installed, which is why we cannot give absolute assurance that dimming will be smooth, without any visible flickering.

The reason for this is that Mains Dimming isn't considered to be a standardised protocol (such as DALI, DMX512 or 0-10V) and as such we find that trying to successfully pair Dimmers, Mains Dimmable Drivers and LED Strips can often prove difficult. You may find, upon connecting everything together, that performance is initially acceptable, but as the light strip is gradually dimmed, the introduction of flickering becomes an issue.

Because of this unpredictable behaviour, we always stress the importance of testing Dimmers and Mains Dimmable Drivers on-site, prior to installation. Whilst we certainly don't discourage customers from using Mains Dimmable Drivers, as they are of very good quality, we do suggest exploring your options to see if the recommended standardised products listed above might work more to your benefit.

If you can use standardised dimming products, then a simpler method, which always provides smooth dimming, would be our Wireless Single Colour LED Strip Dimmer.

The above can be used with a Wall Press Switch, a Remote or both. Our Single Colour LED Strip Remote is an ideal companion and will guarantee smooth dimming with any brand of LED Strip, due to the technology being used to adjust brightness.
